On 16 November 2023, the graduates of the Bachelor's degree course in Biology, the interdisciplinary Bachelor's degree course and the Master's degree course in Teacher Training for Grammar Schools with Biology as a subject were bid farewell for the first time at a joint graduation ceremony. The training of biology students on these courses, which are based at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, is carried out jointly by Leibniz University Hannover (LUH), the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo) and Hannover Medical School (MHH) and organised by the Central Biology Facility (ZEB).

Congratulations: successful graduation in Biology and honours for the best students of the year

The congratulatory letters were presented at the Herrenhausen Campus by the Dean of Studies of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof. Jutta Papenbrock, and Prof. Jorge Groß from the Institute  of Science Education. The Dean of Studies for Biology at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Dr. Felix Felmy, together with Prof. Dr. Andreas Kispert, who is responsible for Biology at Hannover Medical School, presented awards to the best students of the year. All those responsible for the cooperation emphasised once again the uniqueness of the excellent cooperation at the Hanover site, which has been successfully cultivated for a long time. They agreed that "this event helps to ensure that the cooperation can continue to build on a good foundation and develop further".

The ceremony was framed by greetings from Dr Martin Meier, the representative of the VBIO in Lower Saxony, Association of Biology, Biosciences and Biomedicine in Germany, and an interesting keynote speech on the topic of "Climate change and species conservation" by PD Dr. Guido Westhoff, Zoological Director, Hagenbeck Zoo and Tropical Aquarium. Ms Nora Lotz (Hanover) provided the musical accompaniment for the presentation of congratulatory letters and awards to the best students of the year. At the champagne reception that followed, the jazz band Street Quality from Hamelin helped to boost the good mood.

We would like to thank the VBIO-Landesverband Niedersachsen und Bremen and the Leibniz Universitätsgesellschaft Hannover e. V. for their financial support of this successful event.
