During a ceremony at the University of Ss Cyril and Methodius (UCM) in Trnava, Slovakia, on 13 December 2022, Prof. Dr Franz Renz was awarded an honorary doctorate. This is a rare distinction that was last awarded two years ago. The honorary title of Doctor honoris causa is awarded to persons who have demonstrated a special contribution to the support and strengthening of the Slovak university and academic life. The chemist has been connected to the university for over ten years through various DAAD projects.
"For me, 13.12.2022 was Christmas. I expected a lot, but it was beyond. It was like a dream," Franz Renz enthuses about the festive ceremony. Those attending included the Scientific Councillors of UCM and the Faculty of Natural Sciences UCM as well as representatives of ten other universities. "It was like entering Hogwarts: in a gown with a hat and collar". It is a special appreciation for the researcher, who has already received many awards from international research institutions.
