From 9th to 11th June 2025, a doctoral symposium took place in Sigtuna (Sweden). The first Hannover-Uppsala Organic Chemistry Symposium (HUOCS 1) was initiated by the natural science faculties of Uppsala University and Leibniz Universität Hannover. The focus was on natural product research and organic chemistry.
As a result of a long-term Exchange of Master's students from both universities as part of the ERASMUS Programme, the Symposium offered 38 young scientists the opportunity to present themselves internationally and build personal contacts. The Gathering of Young scientists with Focus on natural product research and organic chemistry enabled joint research collaborations and the initiation of overarching research proposals. For all participants, the symposium was an outstanding event in their scientific careers to date - according to the general feedback.
The symposium took place at the ‘Stora Brännbo’ conference centre in Sigtuna, Sweden's oldest city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Leibniz University was represented by the research teams led by the professors Cox, Heretsch, Kirschning, Plettenburg (all: Institute of Organic Chemistry) and Franke (Institute of Botany). From the Swedish delegation, the teams of the Organic Chemistry section Emanuelsson, Erdélyi, Grennberg, Pilarski and Streuff took part.
